Photo to Tracing Guide

What does this tool do?

Make a light tracing guide from a photo. Lower opacity helps you draw over the reference; crop to the proportions of your paper before exporting. Print at the size you need. Use your own photos or images you have permission to trace.

How it works

01

Choose an image

Choose the photo you want to use as a drawing reference. Start with a clear subject and select Original, Square, or Portrait crop to suit your paper.

02

Make the lines your own

The tracing preset creates lighter lines. Open More adjustments to tune opacity, then adjust detail and line weight until the guide is visible without overpowering your drawing.

03

Download and create

Export a white-background PDF for paper tracing, or a transparent PNG to use as a reference layer in a drawing app. Confirm the final scale in print preview.

Features and controls

Low-opacity lines make a lighter guide, while cropping and rotation help prepare the composition. Transparent PNG output can be placed over another canvas; PDF centers and fits the image on one page.

Tips for better results

PDF fits the image to A4 or US Letter with margins; it does not preserve real-world measurements. Check printer scaling if your project needs a particular size.

Frequently asked questions

How is a tracing guide different from a coloring page?

A tracing guide uses faint lines to support drawing over the reference. A coloring page starts with stronger edges and thicker lines. Both share the converter, but their starting settings serve different tasks.

Choose the right tool

Photo to Line Drawing

Turn a photo into a line drawing for sketching or graphic projects. Start with fine lines for texture; reduce detail for a simpler contour. Download raster PNG or an image-based PDF. This tool does not create editable SVG paths.

Photo to Coloring Page

Create a photo coloring page with bold lines on white paper. The coloring preset reduces small details and thickens edges. Clear subjects and uncluttered backgrounds work best. Print a single-page PDF, and check that the spaces are large enough to color.

Portrait Outline

Make a portrait outline from a face or upper-body photograph. Even lighting and a contrasting background help separate facial features. Use fine lines for hair, then erase unwanted background marks. Local conversion preserves the source geometry.

Add Outline to PNG

Add a border around the visible pixels of a transparent PNG. Choose a color, stroke width, and extra padding. Transparency is required to follow the subject silhouette. A fully opaque image receives a rectangular border; this tool does not remove backgrounds.
